For long periods in our history, the ducal and later royal Schwäbischen Hüttenwerke formed the backbone of industrialization in Southwestern Germany. From the invention of the sand mould and the development of the modern blast furnace to the very latest innovations in its sector, SHW has continually set new standards.
What began with the smelting of iron ore in 1365 in the Swabian Jura mountains has today become pure high-tech. A significant driving force behind our company is the awareness of being rooted in a long tradition, the core of which has always been a readiness and a will to change and to innovate.
This is also proven by the SHW automobile of 1925, which never went into mass production. Some of the innovations it featured would only be used again in automotive construction only decades later. Today you can still appreciate the vehicle 'live' at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
